So... what will your challenge be?
Your actual challenge will be released on the 4th of December at 1am (UTC). For now, we can show you an example challenge so you can get a flavour of what you’ll be working on.
When the challenge is set, you’ll be given additional information about the location, skills and interests of the involved parties. You will also have the opportunity to ask us questions via whatsapp from 9am -5pm (UTC).
Example challenge: Farming for a sustainable income
Lydia is 24, she lives in a remote village in Nepal with her three children.
Their home is a one-room hut. There is no running water in her home, the village shares one tap. A recent initiative from the Chinese government added one electricity socket per home, but the reality is that she cannot afford to use electricity.
Her husband is away for months at a time, foraging in the mountains to sell bark and roots for herbal medicines. She grows potatoes in a small field. The family eats potatoes for about nine months of the year; after that, the crop has rotted, and they face hunger until the next harvest.
She has asked for help to improve her yield so she can better provide for her family. Children can only attend school if their parents can afford uniforms. When asked how we might help, she said people often focus on children’s education – but what about young adult farmers like her who lack access to farming knowledge?
Your task:
Propose how to spend your budget of £500 to help Lydia create a sustainable source of income for her family (not a one-off handout).
Keep your solution simple, practical, and relevant for the world in which she lives.
In your proposal please include:
One-page business plan (clear costs, activities, timeline, risks, and expected income).
1–2 pages explaining your thinking (why this will work locally, how success will be measured etc.)
Optional: a 1–2 minute video to bring your idea to life.
Make your idea robust, realistic, and easy to implement. Keep it engaging and informative.
FAQ
How long will the challenge take?
The challenge is designed to take around 3 hours per team – but you get to choose when, anytime between 1am and 11pm on the 4th December (UK time). That way, everyone, in every time zone, gets a chance to join in.
We’re not tracking your time, so it’s up to each team if they spend more or less time on the challenge. Simply pick your start time, stay organised, delegate smartly, and see what you can achieve.
How do we access our challenge?
At 1:00am on the 4th of December an access code will be sent to your email address. Enter the code into the ‘Race Players Portal’ on our website to view your challenge.
How do we submit our answers?
Please send in one submission per team via email to basecamp@theleadershiprace.com
The deadline for your challenge submissions is 11pm on the 4th of December 2025. This gives our judges a chance to look over your proposals before the live judging the following day.
What happens during the live call?
All teams are invited to attend an online live judging and feedback session on the 5th of December at 12-2pm (UST).
The judges will go into a breakout room for a 30 minute deliberation. During which, players will be invited to share their learning and ideas with each other in a facilitated learning session asking questions around how they found the challenge, the positives, the negatives and everything in between.
Once the judges have finished their discussions, the winning team will be announced live on the call. The winning solution will be implemented within days and follow up photos and videos posted on the leadership race website.
